Maras Salineras – Maras, Peru
This picture has been taken at the Maras Salineras, where I stopped on my way to Machu Picchu. This salt plan have been built by the Incas more than 700 years ago, and are still being used by the local people living in the village near by. The water from a brook near by that is naturally rich in salts is channeled across a complex and impressive network of pool. The water once there evaporate and only the salt stay that is then collected once a month. The result of the terrace pool makes it beautiful for picture with a lot of different nuances of color based on the time the water is evaporating into the pool.
